Somerford Park International 20th August
Somerford Park run the CIC 2 star showjumping after the cross country which is fairly unusual in the UK. The Court Jester sped around the CIC 2 star well within his comfort zone to make time which was pretty cool as not so many did and that shot him up the leaderboard into the top 6. It was therefore slightly disappointing to see Jester pick up 9 faults in the showjumping which dropped him 10 places back into 16th. 16th is still very much top 25 % but Jester can have the "could do better" tag applied to his showjumping... especially since he was so good dressage and cross country!
D was also a star cross country going clear with 12 time.. he was on a dressage score of 52 so Sammii was never going to go for time on him. Just a rail to add in the showjumping but another CIC 2 star ticked off and invaluable experience for him to take forwards with Lignieres CCI 2 star in mind as his end of season aim.
The Kincooley Ceili (William) was pure class again today! He skipped around the CIC 2 star with just 9 time and then came out and jumped clean like a pro to pick up18th place and a qualifying score for Le Lion D'Angers where he thoroughly deserves to go! Sammi has produced him brilliantly and owner Susan Lamb can be justifiably proud of what she has achieved with her raw purchase form Ireland. Susan and Sammi make a great team... Susan looks for and buys lovely young horses and Sammi produces them magnificently!
It's Sunday night and Sammi is a long way from home with the M6 to contend with and all its current traffic problems but there is nothing like some great performances from the young horses to make the journey home that much better. Hunter Valley ( Giz) has his first 4 star at Pau in his sights and clearly Sammi is riding as well as ever so that will be an exciting debut to look forward to in October.
